Baiyun Temple

Baiyun Temple

Baiyun Temple is located in Baiyunguan Street outside West Ximen Gate,Xicheng District,Beijing.Founded in the Tang Dynasty, it was the site of the Lao Tzu of Tang Xuanzong. At the time of King Sejong’s visit, he led a large-scale expansion project, renamed the Tenth Heavenly Grand View, and Jinmo was rebuilt as a Tai Chi Palace.

The Baiyun Temple contains a large number of precious cultural relics, the most famous of which are the “three treasures”: the Ming Dynasty version of the “Orthodox Taoism”, the portrait of the Tang stone carving Laozi and Zhao Mengfu of the Yuan Dynasty calligrapher's “Songxue Moral Classics” and the “Yin Fu Jing”.

The Baiyun Temple is facing the south and is divided into four parts: the Middle , East, the West Third Road and the backyard. It covers more than 1 hectare. The main temples are located on the central axis, including Shanmen, Lingguandian, Jade Emperor Hall, Old Law Hall, Qiuzu Palace, Sanqingge and other buildings. The main hall is divided into the central axis.

Speaking of Baiyun Temple , we had to mention the Bell Tower, Drum Tower and Jade Emperor Hall. The Bell Tower and Drum Tower of the Baiyun Temple is opposite to other Bell Towers and Drum Towers in the building layout. Its bell tower is on the west side and the Drum Tower is on the east side. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, Changchun Guan Dianyu allegedly dumped. At the beginning of the redevelopment of the Ming Dynasty, with the center of Tangshun Church (present-day Qiu Zudian) as the center, the original bell tower was preserved, and a new Drum Tower was built in the east of the bell tower, thus forming what we see today's pattern.

Palace of Jade Emperor is used to enshrine the Jade Emperor. Among them, the statue is a Ming Dynasty woodcarving. The six bronze statues on the left and right sides were cast in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. They were the four Heavenly Masters and the Second Boys before the Jade Emperor. There are eight pieces of silk paintings, including Nandou Xingjun, Beidou Xingjun, 36 Shuai, and 28 Shisu, all of which are masterpieces of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Today, this is the headquarters of the Taoist Association, which brings together many "immortals." This is  not only a good place to play, but also a must-see for praying. On weekends or holidays, regular activities are held here to allow visitors to experience Taoist culture and the unique views of the Baiyun Temple.
